Legal Window Tint Guidance for Alberta Drivers

4 min read

Alberta has strict rules on where you can and can't tint. Here's what's legal, what isn't, and how to stay compliant on Edmonton roads.

Under Alberta's Vehicle Equipment Regulation, tinting on the windshield and the front driver and passenger windows is not permitted (no visible light transmission reduction is allowed on those windows).

Rear side windows and the back windshield can be tinted to any darkness on passenger vehicles, giving drivers real flexibility for privacy and heat rejection in the back of the car.

For medical exemptions, Alberta accepts documentation for conditions that require reduced UV exposure — talk to your physician and bring the paperwork to your installer.

At VELOKAM we install premium ceramic and hybrid films only on legally tintable windows, and we walk every Edmonton client through what is and isn't compliant before install.
