How to Restore Cloudy Headlights

4 min read

Foggy, yellowed headlights aren't just ugly — they cut nighttime visibility in half. Here's how professional restoration works.

Headlight lenses are made of polycarbonate with a thin factory UV coating. In Alberta's sun and winter salt, that coating degrades and the plastic underneath oxidizes into a foggy yellow haze.

A proper restoration is not just polishing. We wet-sand through the oxidized layer with progressively finer grits, machine-polish to full clarity, then apply a fresh UV-resistant sealant.

Done correctly, restored headlights look OEM-new and stay that way for 2+ years. Skip the sealant step and they'll haze again within months.

Beyond looks, restored lenses recover a huge amount of nighttime light output — a genuine safety upgrade for winter driving.
